Compiling a Kernel with KernelCheck

Recently, a lot of you have been recommending that I compile my own kernel to boost my performance. However, several of you also said that I'd need significant experience with certain things that I didn't have (such as coding). I recently found a program called KernelCheck that lets me compile a kernel via GUI, allowing me to customize it however I want. I have already tested this program, installing kernel 2.6.29 succesfully. However, I'm not absolutely sure what most of the selectable options mean. There are... a lot of them, to say the least, and most of them might as well be in another language. What are some options that I might be looking for within this program to change?

Also, for those of you that hadn't seen my other threads, I have a Sager NP8660 with a P8600 processor and 4 GB of RAM in it. I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 x64 on a 40 GB partition formatted as Ext4.
