Error: 8878000A
Hi folks !
I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 on my system and were playing sound files over winamp, which I run over Wine 1.1.23. Everything was fine until one day I got a message, which told me: "Bad direct sound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error code 8878000A" I already looked for a solution in this forum but didn't find anything, that worked. That's quite frustrating because it affects every sound from my notebook, meaning:"My notebook is silent !" As a consequence I'm now asking, if anybody can please help me. Re: Error: 8878000A
Hi,
Welcome to TSF!! I need you to give me a couple of things. I need to see the output for the following command, you will need to run this in terminal. To get to terminal you go to Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal. The command is: Code:
lspci <- this will show all the components connected by pci Cheers!

Re: Error: 8878000A
the output for lspci is:
00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801DBM (ICH4-M) IDE Controller (rev 03) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) SMBus Controller (rev 03) 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 03) 00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Modem Controller (rev 03) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 [Mobility Radeon 9600 M10] 02:01.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] Network Connection (rev 05) 02:02.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. VT6306 Fire II IEEE 1394 OHCI Link Layer Controller (rev 80) The format of the sounds doesn't seem to matter since I get no sounds at all, but it is .MP3 . The curious thing is that it ran before and I got the error all of a sudden. To bad I don't know what I've done since then. :( Last edited by ElvisTB; 06-29-2009 at 12:27 PM. |

Re: Error: 8878000A
Hi,
I think that this is a problem with winamp not a problem with ubuntu. I would try playing a song with another program like rhythm box or something like that. Then lets see if you still have no sound. Cheers!

Re: Error: 8878000A
A suggestion here wmorri,
Or try this here and see if this helps you: 1. Winamp > Ctrl+P (for preferences) 2. Plug-ins > Output 3. double click 'DirectSound output' 4. Driver tab 5. make sure the device in the drop-down list correctly reflects your soundcard -and/or- 1. Control Panel 2. Sounds & Audio Devices icon (or MultiMedia Icon) 3. Audio tab 4. in 'Sound playback' make sure the 'Default device:' drop-down box correctly reflects your soundcard What version of directx are you using? Theres a newer version of wine now 1.1.24: http://www.winehq.org/site/download

Re: Error: 8878000A
@wmorri:
I didn't say that it's a problem with Ubuntu, did I ? Non the less I already tried other programs than Winamp and I think I have to say that I have no sound at all. It doesn't matter which prog I use. |
