What linux version should I start with?

I'm thinking of getting my feet wet with linux but
I don't know what version is good for me. I have never used linux in my life
but I hear it is a neat OS.

Can anyone suggest a good starter version?

I would like to learn more about its networking capabilities vs XP and VISTA.
How I can control my network with it. ETC.

Hi,

Welcome to the world of linux. I would recommend that you take a look at a a few different distros. I would recommend that you take a look at Ubuntu or Kubuntu. There is also Fedora, a personal favorite of mine. Linux Mint seems to a good one, and Arch linux. Opensuse is another on for beginners.

Those are the ones that I would recommend. The thing that I would recommend is that you make a few Livecds and see which ones you like the most.

what type of things can I do differently that I cannot do in Windows?

What features does linux offer?

Hi,

Linux uses resources better. It if FREE like in speech and beer. Customization is amazing on linux as supposed to windows. You can customize anything you want. You can try each distro be for you install it with Livecds. There is an endless list, those are the main points I can think of.
