Urgent help needed with REd Hat Linux

I am newbie to Linux. I installed Linux 7.3 on my machine. downloaded 9.0 redhat from www.linuxiso.org. Copied those files on to CD. They read as .iso. Now when i try to boot the machine with CD1 it wont boot. I can put the CD in the machine and see the contents of CD. How do I upgrade to 9.0. Remember i am absolutely DUMB in linux. pls pls pls someone help me.

Also on another occassion i have a cobalt XTR box acting as DNS server and mail server. I cant browse a particular website from my LAN and can not send/receive mails to/from particular Domains. Any idea??

Thx very much. someone pls pls help me out.

Hi, and welcome to TSF. Some details please before I can be helpful. The specific Linux distribution, (Mandrake, SUSE, Debian,......) And some details on the computer you're trying to install upon. It almost sounds like your computer doesn;'t meet the minimum system requirements for the Distro' you're trying to install. I fthe computer is capable of booting from CD, then it should boot from the Linux CD.

I see you're familiar with the Linuxiso website. The CD (s) you downloaded for RH9 should boot just fine. If they fail to boot, the file may have been corrupted in the download process. Be sure to use the MD5sum file to verify the intergity of the .ISO file you downloaded, and download again if not perfect. If your issue is burning the CD, then consult the "how to burn" text on the Linuxiso homepage for detailed instructions. I've never used any windoze apps to burn a CD, but using K3b in Linux is a snap for making .ISO CD's. If you would like to enjoy the latest in Linux apps, download and install Mandrake 10.1, I think you'd like it. I don't think RH9 is supported any longer, since Fedora Core has been around. If you really would rather stick with RedHat for the sake of familiarity, or whatever reason, I'd suggest going with the FC-2 Fedora release. I've tried Fedora Core 1 and 2, both are good, but I went back to Mandrake. largely because it's what I'm used to.

Get Rid of Redhat... it's no longer supported or updated... it is now Fedora Core that is the pop. distro... and it's pretty well build and much better then Redhat.
