Asus eepc with Linux (newbie)

Hi Guys

Just bought my husband a cheap old style (new) Asus eeepc with Linux. Bought my daughter one with XP a while ago and she loves it but my husband just wants to access a couple of web sites, that's it!

Anyway I cannot connect to my wireless. I am with Telstra and use a speedstream 6520. Telstra do not support Linux and their Gyzmo support doesn't either. I am sure there is a way around it but not tech savvy.

I entered wep key, then just received message "pending". Nothing in the errors tab.

Is there away around this?

Thx

Hi,

I am going to get one of the networking folks over here to have a look at this thread. I am not sure about this. Let me send them a message and have them look into this for you.

Welcome to TSF!!

Cheers!

Re: Asus eepc with Linux (newbie)

OK, I' connected BUT I had to disable the security in the SpeedStream to get on!

Is this an issue? We live in a rural area and this is only a home network (ADSL)

All computers now working well only this issue is of concern, any advice appreciated.

Thx for the welcome;)

Hi,

Can you tell me more about his SpeedStream. I don't think that it should be a problem, especially with linux but I would still like to know about it.

Cheers!

Re: Asus eepc with Linux (newbie)

Hi, it is a Siemens SpeedStream 6520, apparently Telstra use it a lot. The only issue I have now is that the security is disabled on it. Asus told me to change from 128 bit to 64 bit but I still couldn't connect. Now we're all on, my daughters XP, my Vista and Husbands Linux.

Re: Asus eepc with Linux (newbie)

Hi,

What security did you disable? Was it just the password to connect, or was it all the security, because you should only have to remove the password and not shut off the firewall.

Cheers!
