Help undo codes

Hi

Initially skype could detect my webcam. But after typing the following codes, my webcam cannot be detected anymore. How can I undo it?

1.
sudo modprobe -r gspca
2.

3.
sudo modprobe -r zc0301
4.

5.
sudo modprobe gspca

The reason for me doing this is because my webcam can work on skype but it is unable to do so on websites, such as http://www.testmycam.com/ A black screen appears. I need help to firstly, undo the codes I typed and get it to be able to work on http://www.testmycam.com/ I am uslng acerobicam. A build in webcam. I am new to linux software.

Re: Help undo codes

Hi,

Can you tell me what these codes do? I would like to know so that I can try and get whatever service you stopped started again.

Cheers!

My System

Re: Help undo codes

to my knowledge

modprobe -r (drivername)

removes the driver

modprobe -i (drivername)

should install it again

use lsmod to see a list of running modules

not sure if "sudo" is required though. My recent experiences showed that the commands were carried out without but I was working from a live CD at the time

To reinstall:

The -i option is not required on most distros.

Re: Help undo codes

Thanks those code worked. My cam is able to be detected by skype again. But the thing is that. Whenever either I turn on my cam during a skype call or when my friend turn it on during a conversation, my computer would hang. Sometimes when it hangs I would press ctrl alt F12 then ctrl alt delete to restart the system. But at times when ctrl alt F12 doesn't work, what should I do to restart the system? I can't possibly keep pressing the off button. Because after doing that for sometime, I might not even be able to load Ubuntu. I've been in that situation before and I had to reinstall ubuntu.

What you need to do is start skype from the terminal, type
skype

If the application hangs then it may pront something in the terminal window.
When it freezes do you still have mouse and keyboard access?
If yes, then to terminal skype, press ctrl-alt-esc
the cursor changes toskull and crossbones, click the skype window to kill the app.
You may also find a log in /var/log/messages
You may get better help on ubuntuforums, but post which version of ubuntu you use.
