Re: Hi! I want Linux! But...

4 screens in one is a feature of Compiz, I believe. You'll get the best support with either Ubuntu or Fedora, and you'll basically be able to do anything with either one as far as effects go. I personally think Fedora is a bit faster, but the advantages of Ubuntu outway the slight speed gain for me. That's just my opinion, though.

Re: Hi! I want Linux! But...

For me, Ubuntu was an easy switch from Windows - just some slight issues, and then my audio issue as per another thread. However, setting up internet connections, running normal office features, photo editing, et cetera has all been an easy switch.

Re: Hi! I want Linux! But...

+1 for Linux Mint.

I think for what you're looking for, Mint would be a good starting place. It's lighter than both Fedora and Ubuntu so you'll notice better speed. Also as user friendly as either of the others, maybe even more so in a few areas. You'll find plenty of support from the Mint community, but can always go to any general Linux forum to get help (such as right here).

As far as the eye-candy, don't worry about choosing a distro based on that alone. You can pretty much tweak and tune linux to look any way you want it.

Re: Hi! I want Linux! But...

when you say fast what do you mean ? what PC are you going to put it on ?

perhaps you are also thinking of using Beryl (at least that's the name it went by a couple of years ago) which has some great eye candy
