Question-- asus driver+utility 4 dlinux 3.5
HI, i had serious problems with my new build with vista 64 ultimate sp2--im sorry but they need to work on this (guess thats why it isnt out yet). i got it from my cousin who is a software engineer. he never told me it isnt out yet and he knows im not an IT, so i have no idea why he would do that
anyway i trashed vista after like 5 clean installs and 50 hardware tests, i downloaded linux dreamlinux 3.5 Gnome and i need to put the drivers and utilities on there for my asus m3n78-vm mobo. the choices on the website list : DOS, all types of windows, and others. obviously i wouldnt choose to download windows version, but do i choose other or DOS? i dont know what DOS is or if dreamlinux 3.5 is DOS my guess would be other...also do i have to do anything to the linux os before i install these drivers n utilities...like download a linux install wizard or program? thanks guys!! Re: Question-- asus driver+utility 4 dlinux 3.5
Hi,
What part of the install does it ask you for you mobo drivers? Most of the time a distro doesn't need drivers for the mobo, it has all that information in the kernel. If you could answer that for me I can try and help you to find the drivers that you need. Cheers!

Re: Question-- asus driver+utility 4 dlinux 3.5
Hi,
So let me see if I understand here, does the board not work with out the nvidia chipset? You can work without the hd audio drivers. As for the utilities I am not sure that you will be able to use them, you can do a little searching on google, but I am not sure that you will find them. I can honestly say that I have never heard of dreamlinux, it seems to be based on Debian, so that is a plus, you might be able to find the drivers that you need. I can try and find what you need, but I can't guarantee anything. Cheers!

Re: Question-- asus driver+utility 4 dlinux 3.5
yes it is debian based. what i dont understand is that your supposed to write commands to install drivers for graphics cards and wireless internet pci cards, but how are you supposed to know what the commands are..im used to windows and mac, and i am not familiar with code. is there something im missing..is there a way around this, or is this the way it has to be done?

Re: Question-- asus driver+utility 4 dlinux 3.5
You have a graphical front-end for installing software and drivers and so forth - it's called Synaptic package manager. You don't need to use the command line; but it's good to learn. DreamLinux is supposed to be a very easy to use and yet very customizable distro - should be good.
As far as WIndows and Mac; they also use command lines. Linux isn't stone age, but desktops and GUI's are a relatively new thing. However; you can do most if not all work from GUI (graphical program). Learning commands and using the terminal does come in handy.

Re: Question-- asus driver+utility 4 dlinux 3.5
ok i got windows to work. my therory was right all along, the problem was from that crappy vista 64 ultimate sp2. installed vista 32 ultimate sp1. but i just downloaded vmware player to my usb flash, and a vm ubuntu appliance, i was just wondering since all of my hardware is installed through windows (bc that is the main system) will ubuntu vm automatically have that stuff working, or will i have to do anything??? (im talking about my wireless keyboard and mouse, gpu, PCI wireless network card...ect..ect)
(--my system is a pc built by me from the ground up...asus m3n78-vm mATX, phenom II x4 3.0GHz 940 quad core-black edition, 4gig ocz high performance platnum series RAM, 2x WD caviar blue 320G (each) @7200rpm sata 2, nvidia geforce 9400 gt PCIe GPU) |

Re: Question-- asus driver+utility 4 dlinux 3.5
First, let me say that sometime we have to come up with an answer and we don't have the answers on the tip of our tongues.
You shouldn't have a problem with your computer hardware connected to your tower with ubuntu. I am not sure about your wireless keyboard and mouse. I haven't done a lot of work with that to see if it works. You might have to do some searching on google to come up with an answer to that. Cheers!
