Linux AV Software
Is it true that you don't need any kind of AV software for Linux? I've been looking around and apparently everybody thinks that Linux can't be infected by viruses which i find hard to believe. Not that you can find any AV for Linux anyways, they all seem to be for windows.

Re: Linux AV Software
The "can't be infected" is false, but the likelihood of such is extremely low. You have a far better chance of breakage from shotty coding than actual malicious script.
If you really want av-like protection, download rkhunter or chkrootkit. Root kits would make up a bigger threat on a Linux box but, again, actual 'infected' machines are low compared to Windows and the majority of those would be server systems, not home desktops/laptops. If you're connected to the net, same rules apply though. No safer out of the box than with Windows.

Re: Linux AV Software
I would think that it is unlikely to get infected because Linux isn't the target not because it can't happen. So are you saying that i don't need any AV software for now? If it really isn't needed then I'm not going to install it.

Re: Linux AV Software
Actually linux boxes are the target of a lot of attacks for that very reason. I know from doing some testing of my own network I have had to do some updating. I also know that if I was going to run an attack on a network then I would look for linux boxes. Most people don't think that they can be affected because they run linux, but as rome has stated that isn't true.
If you need an AV software you can take a look at ClamAV. Cheers!

Re: Linux AV Software
I'll try out the ClamAV, I've actually used it for a flash drive before so hopefully it wont' slow down the system.
