This 29.2GB is on the same drive as XP/Vista or is on a separate hard drive? Just trying to be sure. It is actual free space as in, you've formatted it and left it empty? That's plenty of room for Fedora, so that wouldn't be the problem unless Fedora is not seeing it.

Re: Installing fedora

Hi,

I agree with Rome5 on this. One thing that I might mention to you is that fedora 11 comes out on May 26, and it will have all the latest and greatest things in terms of hardware and software support, so I might wait for that to come out. You say that you want to install Fedora 8, I might recommend that you wait install at least 10 if you have to do it right now.

Cheers!

Re: Installing fedora

The disk partitioning menu during install has a "custom" option. Choose that. Your Windows partitions will show up as NTFS so leae those alone. In the free space create the Linux partitions, specify a size for each and format them as ext3. You need 100Mb for /boot 2Gb for /usr and 2Gb for /home. To leave lots of room for future software, make /usr/local a partition of maybe 4Gb and install all your downloaded tarballs there.

Use grub for the bootloader. The grub configuration menu will show "other" for your Windows installation. Edit it to match the version (XP, Vista, etc.) so that the grub boot (put it on the MBR of the fisrt disk) will display both the Linux and Windows installation. During boot you will select which to boot.

Re: Installing fedora

Do you have the option to use all available space? If so then I would try that and see what you come up with.
