Vista-Linux Dual Install
I'm thinking about installing Linux (probably Ubuntu) onto my HDD along side Vista.
What steps will I have to take and how much space will I need? (Disc is unpartitioned and there is approx. 50GB of space left on it.) |

Re: Vista-Linux Dual Install
it depends upon how much downloading and stuff you do as to how much space you need. What you have should be okay unless you download music, movies and such.
There are different ways to install ubuntu, you can do it from within windows. Just insert the cd while windows is running. This is the easiest way, especially if you decide to uninstall later or you can boot to the ubuntu cd and install that way. Just be sure you make sure you do not install over windows. Whatever you do, make sure you back up any files you cannot afford to lose, like anything else you do on the computer, the unexpected and unwanted can happen.

Re: Vista-Linux Dual Install
Do I need to partition my drive at all? I've actually got 2 partitions:
1) All my stuff, program files, windows files etc. 2) A windows backup partition with all the basic windows stuff But everyone says you need to partition your drive and that you can only do that if you have a full reinstall of windows. |

Re: Vista-Linux Dual Install
you can partition if you want but ubuntu will take care of the partitions during the install. I never had a problem with ubuntu doing it but from what I have read, others had. so it is up to you.
as far as having a full reinstall of windows, I never had to.
