[SOLVED] turning on a computerwithout pushing the button
Looking for a way to start up a server without being in the room to turn it on.
Wake on Lan is not an option because the MoBo does not support it. (still looking into flashing Bios to get the option) anyone got any Idea's? |

Re: [SOLVED] turning on a computerwithout pushing the button
I don't understand. This is a server, right? Don't you normally leave those on?
If it's off for some reason then someone will have to push the button. Unless you've got a robot or similar device that can be remotely operated to act as the finger normally used. :) What about something like this Can't be done is a defeatist talking. |

Re: [SOLVED] turning on a computerwithout pushing the button
It is a personal server, meaning that all the power it consumes comes out of pocket. I want it off when it's not in use. When I'm home, I can walk over and turn it on, but when I'm not at home, it's either leave it on or don't use it.

Re: [SOLVED] turning on a computerwithout pushing the button
place a 100uF/ 16V electrolytic capacitor in parallel with the power on button. Take care about Polarity or it may smoke and smoulder ..
If you lose your mains input power for any reason (why aren't you using a UPS ???) when the power returns the capacitor will need charging .. this is the same affect as pressing the button. It works since that is how I get my test board to work without having to short the pins .. no button is installed or used.
