Re: No Sound?
Hi,
I just sent a message to one of the managers of this forum, because I am not familiar with Sound Blasters driver and how they want them installed. It should only be a day or so more and you should start getting some answers. Sorry for the wait. Cheers!

Re: No Sound?
Looks like the Realtek is for ethernet. There do appear to be multiple sound devices though. From what I see, you have a Creative Soundblaster and Intel AC'97 built-in audio.
Code:
02:02.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 07) 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02) I'd like the output from these commands: Code:
lsmod amixer Both sound devices should be able to work with Linux, since there are in-kernel drivers for both. When built as modules, the SB driver would be built as the snd-emu10k1 module and the AC'97 would probably be [b]snd-intel8x0[b].

Re: No Sound?
I would love to, but I can't seem to get it to boot correctly or something. Is there any way to do that from Windows XP?

Re: No Sound?
Nope. Windows doesn't recognize filesystems that non-Windows operating systems typically use for important partitions. lsmod needs to examine the state of the Linux kernel while it is running. I think the amixer data should be in a configuration file, but I don't know which one.
Hopefully we can resolve your boot issue in your other thread, then come back to this issue here.

Re: No Sound?
You can't boot either? You've got the right drivers running for your sound card. Which Linux distro did you install?
shuuhen asked if you're device is muted. This happens. Do you have a handy volume-control or sound-control plugin loaded in your task bar? Poke around in it to turn volumes up and or unmute stuff if necessary. Sometimes you'll need to choose the correct device from the drop down, too. People often avoid right-clicking on things in Linux for some strange reason. Right-click on everything and it probablyu has "properties" and you can go nuts from there. |

Re: No Sound?
Check in System > Preferences > Sound and verify that 'alsa' is selected. May also help to 'killall pulseaudio' and replace with alsa. Run alsamixer and verify the device being used. Verify that PCM is not muted (as mentioned above) as well.
