Creating Ubuntu install cd from my HDD
Hi is it possible to create an install cd from the version already installed on my p.c.
I have ubuntu v8.04 cd and updated mine to 8.10 a while back. I need to do this because we want to install ubuntu on all our office pc's but obviously don't want to have to upgrade all from 8.04 to 8.10 Thanks in advance. |

Re: Creating Ubuntu install cd from my HDD
Hi,
I think that there is a way that you can do a network upgrade. Let me do a little searching and see what I can come up with. I think that doing an upgrade over your network would be even less work than going to each computer. EDIT: I found something that might be what you are talking about, see if this page is what you are talking about. I can try to help you the best that I can but I don't know that much about doing a network install. However some of the other members will probably have some ideas on it. Cheers!

Re: Creating Ubuntu install cd from my HDD
I checked the page, nothing seems to be the exact answer, might be a bit of each.
I know one way to do it would be to ghost it onto all the harddrives, but it's been a while since i did a ghosting and im not to sure whats the best software to use nowadays, last time i did it i used symantec ghost. |

Re: Creating Ubuntu install cd from my HDD
Hi,
How many computers are we talking about? If it is 10-30 that shouldn't be too bad, but if it is more that 30 then it might get a little time consuming. Especially if you are the only one that is doing the installing. As far as ghosting goes, I still hear people saying that symaneic ghost, now called norton ghost i think, is the best one out there. But that is something that I don't know much about. Cheers!

Re: Creating Ubuntu install cd from my HDD
Its 10 pc's all together, pc's dont have any software installed atm.
Maybe it'll just be quicker to download ubuntu 8.10. I actually did it already but it failed to install, that's why i installed 8.04 and upgraded. |
