We should keep this in mind for the FAQ.

I agree Batty. Maybe you, myself and Skie can get together on chat or IRC one of these days when we all have time and flesh out how we want to do the revamped FAQ.

If you think something should be included, post some info (link, text, whatever) in that thread I started and we'll take it into consideration. :)

My System

ok, bad news....

it didn't work...

when it asks for the second disk, it asks me to press enter, and when i do, it types an "a" (lowercase)

ok, all i really need is a text editor, such as notepad, and the ability to view html pages that i have written.

the stupid laptop can easily do this, and that's what i got it for, the problem is getting it on there. it only has a floppy.

the specs are as follows: (go ahead and laugh, i laugh at the stupid thing too)

486-SX 33mhz
8 megs ram
180 meg hard disk
2.88 floppy drive.

it has windows 3.1 on it, so i tried all of the windows 3.1 compatible browsers, and something is apparently missing from my windows folder, as none of them have worked.

i don't care less if it has internet, i will be using it on the bus to write/view html.

so, either i need a working html preview tool for 3.1, or i need to know how i can install linux onto it using nothing but 1.44 floppies.

for what it's worth, i am familliar with zips made with spanning support, but i dont think this will help me in this instance.

The biggest problem is finding a distro that can still be installed via floppies. There are plenty of small ones, but they usually need to be on either a Mini CD or a USB memory stick/pen drive/etc.

I know there are a few floppy based ones, but I never pay attention to them. This is the only one I can locate right now. It's called RIP (Recovery Is Possible). It's mainly meant as a way of accessing a crashed system so that you can attempt to recover it. I don't know what tools are available in terms of HTML support. You can try it however and see if it'll help you. It only runs on the floppy, I don't think it can be installed onto the hard drive.

If you have a zip drive you can install zipslack http://www.slackware.com ... or some distro's let you net boot. I think even slackware supports NFS and netboot, so you could boot up with a boot floppy and then install a stripped version from NFS. Let me know if you're interested and I'll try and get the materials you'll need together and help ya out.
