ip addressing & dhcp distro building
As far as I know, ip addresses are calculated thus;
Quote:
1 is the network base the ip address that I need to map to my Hardware Adress of my nic in dhcpd.conf? (ie the gateway/router address) If not, what is it? 2 The quoted calculation does not work for calculating address ranges for such addresses as subnet 10.0.0.1 netmask 255.0.0.0 Is this because there is no need to calculate (ie the addresses are never broadcast due to NAT?) Does this meen that the address range for the above subnet and mask has been chosen arbitrarily? range dynamic-bootp 10.0.0.150 10.0.0.225; ![]() Do I have to build my dhcp distro? Is there a way of checking this? If I do have to build it, will the following command work? zcat dhcp-3.0pl2.tar.gz ¦tar xvf does anyone know what zcat does? what is th ¦tar for? (the ¦ is a pipe right?) Sorry for the bombardment of luser questions but I'm determined to run my network using linux and dhcp... Please don't make me go back to windoze, lol.

If you're trying to set this up using a 3-COM etherlink I, II, or III. get a different networking card. for some reason the card will not work with core 1 or 2, haven't tried with 3, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Core is really nice software, but I fought that configuration for a week the first time I tried core-1. I could ping the router, but I couldn't get through it for anything.
Perhaps packages can be added to fix this, but I'm not aware of what it would take.
