VNC from Windows to Fedora
Hello everyone,
I am running Fedora 8 and installed the VNC rpm's that come with Fedora. I started the VNC server and am able to connect from other Linux boxes using the command vncviewer <ipaddress>:<port>:<display>. I have 2 questions about this: 1) When I connect from another linux box, I only can get xterm sessions. I cannot see the GUI. How can I get to the GUI? 2) When I try to connect from a Windows XP box using UltraVNC Viewer or TightVNC Viewer it fails to connect. How do I connect to it from Windows? Many thanks to anyone who can help! -Ryan |

Re: VNC from Windows to Fedora
Hi,
I would recommend that you start by looking at this thread. It will tell you how to set up VNC correctly without error. I will do a little looking on what is going on wrong with windows. But can you tell me what kind of error(s) you are getting from Windows? Cheers!

Re: VNC from Windows to Fedora
Technically you are seeing a GUI, just one of the more basic ones. I assume the titlebars are green? What you need to do is put a configuration file in place that starts KDE, Gnome, Fluxbox or whatever other window manager/desktop environment you want.
I forget the exact details, but you can find an overview here: http://www.ioncannon.net/system-admi...gers-with-vnc/ I think I did something fairly odd last time I set VNC up, although that was probably to get fluxbox configured correctly.
