Ubuntu and nVidia Graphics
I have a nVidia 8800 GTX, and I installed Ubuntu 8.04. I have been fiddling with it for about 2 days and I'm getting very frustrated. I can't seem to get my resolutions right. I installed EnvyNG and installed the driver with the xserver settings thing from nvidia but I'm still stuck with 640 x 480 or 800 x 600. I have two monitors that run 1440 x 900. Both the nvidia xserver and the screen resolution screen show those resolutions. I need help.

Re: Ubuntu and nVidia Graphics
Hi,
Let me just make sure that I understand all the steps that you have taken so far. You have gotten the Nvidia drivers for ubuntu. I would make sure that there isn't anything that you are missing. If you go to System -> Admin -> Hardware Drivers, you will be able to see if there are any that you are missing. Next you need to go the System -> Preferences -> Screen Resolution. This is where you can change the resolution and the screen(s) that you are using. Also, one you have all the drivers, I would recommend that you open up Terminal it is on the desktop. Then type Code:
sudo apt-get update (your password) update begins Cheers!

Re: Ubuntu and nVidia Graphics
I am not in front on my Linux system now, but I'm pretty sure that there are drivers that you can select. Go into Administration-> Hardware Drivers. Hopefully there you should see a version of the driver you are looking for requesting to be activated. It seems your driver isn't installed or installed correctly.
Here is actually the same thing I am talking about with pictures :P http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/nvidia |
