Re: help with blank os

Welcome to TSF.

What do you mean by without anything else? You may need to go into the BIOS to set the CD/DVD drive to boot first (assuming this machine uses an AMD or Intel processor). I'd expect the machine to boot from the disc if that part is set and the disc is good (burned as an ISO at a reasonable speed - not as a data file).

Can you tell us anything specific about the machine (like what video card it has, etc)?

Re: help with blank os

Like i said i'm a rookie. What I meant is that the only thing i will need is the cd to boot.
I'm getting a Systemax-AMD 64x2 4200+2.2 GHz socket AM2 processor.
Nvidia Geforce 6100 graphics
DVD-RW
thanks Ducan

Re: help with blank os

Once the CD is inserted and the PC is set up in BIOS to boot the CD before the Hard drive then you will be able to run Fedora or any other CD Live media that you care to place in the drive.

The disadvantage being that the CD will run slowly as opposed to when the Linux Distro has been installed to your hard drive. It will also be difficult to save any data to your hard drive until it has been formatted and mounted for use.
Each Boot will require that Linux reconfigures itself as you will not be able to save or load your previous installation parameters.
