ubuntu to winxp

hi.
i don't know if i'm posting in the right catecory cause i'm new,so,sorry.
the thing is that my pc has a problem.
it had winxp home on and whenever i tried to boot from cd, after reading files , ablue screen appeared with "unmountable boot volume " error.
so i always reinstalled windows through autorun cd.
i decided to give ubuntu a try but i figured out i need windows.
the thing is that now i can install windows again cause i can't neither boot from cd nor run setup inside ubuntu.i can't create boot disks too cause ubuntu can't read my floppy drive.
is there anyway i can install windows xp again?
thanks

Re: ubuntu to winxp

1. What PC or Laptop are you trying to install windows on ?
2. How did you install Ubuntu if you can't boot from CD?
3. Have you configured your BIOS to boot from CD or do you have a Boot Menu ( when you press F8 whilst powering on ) that allows you to choose where to boot from?

Re: ubuntu to winxp

Are you trying to boot from the CD when the power button is pressed to start your PC or from within Ubuntu?

Re: ubuntu to winxp

when i start my pc.
i can't use the cd within ubuntu anyway...
i have arranged bios to boot from cd and i preess the button on start up
set starts loading and when it finishes loading files and should take me to the magic "welcome to set up" screen it shows me a bsod with unmoyntable boot volume.
i know it can boot from floppy though.
i just can't use my floppy drive to create the floppys...

Do you have SATA (Serial ATA) or PATA (old IDE style) Hard Disk Drives on your PC?

Re: ubuntu to winxp

It is possible that you will need the SATA or RAID drivers for your PC/Motherboard on a floppy and when you try to install, you should see "hit F6 for any third party drivers" or similar .. sorry forget the exact wording .. it shows it at the bottom of the screen as the CD starts to load. Get those drivers on a Floppy, boot the CD, Hit F6 when you see the message and a few minutes later it should ask you where to find the drivers .. it will expect to fins them on the A: drive or Floppy so be prepared.

Re: ubuntu to winxp

Manufacturers site is the best place or check the CD of your motherboard / PC

If you have problems .. give us as much info about your Motherboard as possible .. we'll try to help

What Service Pack level is your XP install CD ?? from SP1, SATA was supported although newer SATA interfaces still required intervention with F6 to supply drivers, as I know from experience

Re: ubuntu to winxp

Do you have any SATA card installed in your computer

a sata cable looks like this .. but may not have that right angled connector but a straight at both ends

and a SATA drive might look like this (could have a straight rather than right angled connector at the end of the cable)

power cable might be SATA style or using Molex , the old standard 4 pin connection with red, yellow and black wires.

Re: ubuntu to winxp

Go into BIOS and note what the boot sequence is for your system .. you want to have floppy as first boot device, CD ROM as second boot device and Hard disk drive as third. You'll find it in the manual for your motherboard .. open the link I gave you earlier above the motherboard picture and follow the links to the manual.

open to page 47 in the pdf file.
enter bios and go to advanced settings / boot sequence. arrange the drives as mentioned as earlier if they aren't in the right sequence.

place your CD in the drive and try booting from it.
