[SOLVED] Setting up Wireless on Ubuntu
Hello there, I am rather new to Ubuntu, and Linux in general. I have a Linksys Wireless router model WRT54G, and built in wireless on the latop. The network Manager does not give me any options for wireless internet, and i am somewhat clueless on how to configure this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Setting up Wireless on Ubuntu
Yep...it's the exact same one that I use. And on my Linux box, I have a WUSB54g...so far (usb wifi adapter), Linspire and PCLinuxOS are the only distros that I have been able to connect right up out-of-the-box. All other distros (Including Ubuntu, which is what I currently use) have needed ndiswrapper for the WUSB54G to work.

Re: Setting up Wireless on Ubuntu
I found some of the drivers/files mentioned, but they require an internet connection to d/l.
(ndiswrapper, ect.) I'm assuming i should be able to download them to usb from another pc and throw them on the Ubuntu pc? I'll be able to tweak with it more tonight when i have the laptop in front of me. -alias |

Also, just to make sure the router/modem is working fine, what happens when you jack into the router directly with a piece of ethernet cable? The wired connection uses a different chipset inside the lappy, and Linux support for those chips is pretty good. Or have you already done this and it works fine? |

Re: Setting up Wireless on Ubuntu
You don't need ndiswrapper for the router...
And I'm pleased to report that my WUSB54G v.4 wireless adapter and WRT54G router work flawlessly out-of-the-box with Ubuntu 8.10, NO additional configuration needed. Very pleased.

Re: Setting up Wireless on Ubuntu
If you need to use ndiswrapper have a look at these instructions for setting up a BT Voyager 1055 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=887529. You might also find http://dreamlinuxforums.org/index.php?topic=185.0 useful for setting the thing up - sometimes CLI is best

Re: Setting up Wireless on Ubuntu
Alright, just a quick update on the situation. I hooked the laptop up to the router directly, and was able to get a connection via Auto Ethos. It appears the problem is my wireless driver is not being recongized, i tried to d/l it but not sure exactly how. I'll see if i can figure this out, going to need to wireless up and running within the next month.
