Not sharing nicely!

I've got Ubuntu 8.10 server running on a dedicated box, with Samba installed. There is a separate drive (4 drives in RAID5 array), they are properly mounted, and I can see the folder structure and files using PuTTY from my WinXP Pro desktop. When I use Windows Explorer, I can see the "DATA" folder (the one I want to see) in my Network Places, but I cannot get into it to see any of the data. I am logged onto my WinXP Pro box as "david" and I have created the user "david" (with the same password that I use to log into WinXP Pro) in both Linux (using useradd) and Samba (using smbpasswd -a david).

When I try to browse into the DATA folder, it asks for a password, saying "Incorrect password or unknown username for //Rch-server/data" and won't let me get past it, even tho I'm entering the same username & password that I use to log into the WinXP Pro box.

Here's my smb.conf file:
[global]
workgroup = RCH-WORKGROUP
server string = %h server (File & Print Server)
map to guest = Bad User
obey pam restrictions = Yes
passdb backend = tdbsam
pam password change = Yes
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat = *Enter\snew\s*\spassword:* %n\n *Retype\snew\s*\spassword:* %n\n *password\supdated\ssuccessfully* .
username map = /etc/samba/smbusers
unix password sync = Yes
syslog = 0
log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
max log size = 1000
dns proxy = No
usershare allow guests = Yes
usershare owner only = No
panic action = /usr/share/samba/panic-action %d

[homes]
comment = Home Directories
read only = No

[printers]
comment = All Printers
path = /var/spool/samba
create mask = 0700
printable = Yes
browseable = No

[print$]
comment = Printer Drivers
path = /var/lib/samba/printers

[DATA]
comment = Network Data Drive
path = //NW-DATA/DATA
valid users = april, david
read only = No
create mask = 0664
force create mode = 0660
directory mask = 0775
force directory mode = 0770
When I run smbclient, here's what happens:
smbclient -L RCH-SERVER
Enter boss's password:
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
boss@RCH-SERVER:~$
Here is the /etc/passwd file (the one line for user david, tho there are many more users listed - mostly defaults from the installation)
david:x:1001:1001::/NW-DATA/DATA/USERS/david:/bin/sh
I am certain that I am missing something pretty simple. Any hints will be GREATLY appreciated!

Re: Not sharing nicely!

>>>smbclient -L RCH-SERVER
>>>Enter boss's password:

What happens if you just hit enter for the password. Does it list (as the guest user) the system now?
