Can't Install Linux!!!! HELP!!

Hi all,

my system specs is as follows:
- Intel Core 2 Duo processor 2.4 Ghz
- Gigabyte ga-g31m0s2l MB
- 2 GB Ram
- WD hard drive 160 GB (SATA)

This a raw disk in which I tried to install Linux, I tried several different distros:

Ubuntu
Fedora
Linux Xp
Red Hat

And they ALL won't install... All of them have different error messages... Kernel Panic, cpio bad magic, and 2 other which I can't rmember right now, these howver were the most common... So.... what are the causes of these errors and what should I do to fix them? I tied the installation CD/DVD on another PC and it worked just fine. Do I have a faulty hardware? I tried removing the graphics card and all the PCI devices but still it just won't work. I'm very frustrated and I really don't know what to do.Please help

Re: Can't Install Linux!!!! HELP!!

Last time I put in a new HDD, its came with a CD. It then walked me though a BIOS to format it. Did your HDD come with a CD? If not, try gParted...it might work.

Re: Can't Install Linux!!!! HELP!!

try downloading gparted which is a Live CD for creating and editing partitions on Hard disk drives

create a basic partition of perhaps 40Gb on your Drive with ext3 then boot your distro Install CD and use the space you created to install the distro.

If you find that you want to increase the size later that will be possible using the same Live Gparted CD
