Can you "downgrade" Firefox?

I am not a big fan of Firefox 3, I personally prefer 1.5. Is there anyway that I can install 1.5 and get rid of 3 on my Ubuntu 8.10 system?

Re: Can you "downgrade" Firefox?

Some university's have archives of old software on ftp .. I picked up Version 2 at one when all I could find was ver 3 everywhere else although It was for windows

the same uni also had various linux distro's available so I reckon they may have some goodies if you ask ..or search

Re: Can you "downgrade" Firefox?

It appears that finding it was easy part, but being new to Ubuntu and Linux how would I go about installing it?

Re: Can you "downgrade" Firefox?

I am not sure but I think Synaptic was missing from my install too and I had to do it manually using
apt-get synaptic
from terminal window

When I open Synaptic now and search for Firefox I see that "Firefox" is installed but also that Firefox 2 is an option to install, possibly after removing Firefox from the system first.

Re: Can you "downgrade" Firefox?

I have synaptic but firefox 1.5 I downloaded isn't showing up in it. Is there a specific place I need to download it to?

Re: Can you "downgrade" Firefox?

Its showing up now as an open with "synaptic" option but when I choose it I get an error that says

Starting without administrative privileges

You will not be able to apply any changes. But you can still export the marked changes or create a download script for them.

Re: Can you "downgrade" Firefox?

Synaptic has to be called with the 'gksudo' command, prompting you for a password before actually launching the program. Try opening it from a terminal or the run application ( alt + F2 ); then typing in 'gksudo synaptic'

Re: Can you "downgrade" Firefox?

sorry was away working ..

if you can open synaptic then do a search in symnaptic for firefox and it should show you what has been installed and what not ..

you can then opt to remove any "old firefox" installations and when removed install the new firefox version that you want to use
