[SOLVED] Cant install Ubuntu (Moved from Other Operating Systems)

Hi, does anybody know why my Ubuntu wont install? I wanted to try it out. I downloaded it and burnt it onto a blank disc. I restarted my computer and put the disc in, it booted from the disc and I got the install menu come up, however when I selected "Install Ubuntu", after the Logo screen with the progress bar, all I get is somthing that looks like MS-DOS! I watched it being installed on YouTube, they did it the same way I did, and on their videos their computers didn't show any dos-like screens. It just installed without a hitch. How come theirs installs but mine won't.

Re: Cant install Ubuntu (Moved from Other Operating Systems)

Hi,

It sounds like your disk is booting to a command prompt. Does it look something like this
Code:
[user@name of pc ~]$
This is the standard command prompt for Unix, Linux, and BSD. I would recommend that you try typing
Code:
startx
and see if this will start the gui, if it does than you should be all set. However if it doesn't please write down the error that you are getting and we can go from there.

Cheers!

Re: Cant install Ubuntu (Moved from Other Operating Systems)

So, Clement, you're now using Ubuntu from within Windows? That's the wubi installer, correct?
Not quite the same as a traditional dual-boot, but this way gives you some seat time to decide if you like Ubuntu or not.
