Re: Major Linux problem!!!!!!!!
Hi,
it would appear that there is something missing in the xauth file. I am wondering if you would be able to bring that up and then post the output from the file in a reply so that we me see what it in it. I am not to familiar with the X Windows system but I will do my best to make it work for you. Cheers!

Re: Major Linux problem!!!!!!!!
Hi,
Have you checked the suse site yet to see if you can find anything on it there. You might also want to do a google search for it and see if anyone else has had the same problem. Cheers!

Re: Major Linux problem!!!!!!!!
Try:
sudo startx Add you password when prompted. X11 will complain that you are running as root but continue. See if starting as root will "fix" things, (get the file permissions correct and so on). Once the X11 is running do the CNTL-ALT-BACKSPACE to kill X11. Now restart X11 using "startx". See if things work OK. Sometimes running as root will get everything working. Take a look at the file "/etc/inittab". There should be a line it it that looks like: id:3:initdefault: Change the 3 to a 5 and save the file. You will have to be root. Run the program "/sbin/telinit 5" which should kick the system into run-level 5. If this doesn't work reboot. Also I have heard that selinux can/will reset the /etc/inittab file back to the id:3 version. Your first post mentioned that you start X11 from the terminal prompt. This above procedure should set the system so that you login through X11. |

Re: Major Linux problem!!!!!!!!
I tried using sudo startx but it gave me the same response i posted above.
Then i tried "/etc/inittab" but it said permission denied, and i ran it through the root on top of that. |
