Question about a linux driver for my onboard audio

I am building a LMCE box. I have an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum mobo. On that particular mobo sit a Realtek ALC850 AC'97 onboard sound card. The mobo seems to work fine in my box excpet for the SPDIF Coax and and SPDIF optical out. I looked on MSI's website for a mobo linux driver and had no luck. I did however find a linux driver for Realtek.

My question is will this driver work? Link to driver

If so how do I install it?

Do you think the reason my audio outs arent working is because of a driver issue? The reason I ask is that I thought linux was supposed to be a pretty intelligent OS and so shouldnt it be able to find a compatible driver for an on board audio? Also I forgot to mention that the green audio out port usually used to plug in desktop speakers. That works! but none of the coax out ports do.

I am still new to Linux so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Also my OS is Kubuntu

Re: Question about a linux driver for my onboard audio

Hi,

Let me see if I understand what you are saying here. First you want to know if the link for the driver should work. The answer to that is Yes.

Next you mention that the green out on your sound card works, and so I am guessing that you are using it. But, you say that he coax outs are working. I guess that I must be missing something, because I don't see a problem here. Unless there are other speakers that you aren't getting sound from the connect to the coax outs?

Cheers!
