Checking Hardware Compatibitlity

I'm doing an inventory of my hardware esp. modem to see if it will be compatible with an older version of Linux (Caldera Open Linux 2.3). The only problem is I do not know where to find such information and what information is relevant.

This is a big question I know so if someone knew where I could find an article that covers this question in depth or just how to find out all this out about a modem that would be great.

Re: Checking Hardware Compatibitlity

Newer versions of Linux generally support more hardware. Why would you want to go the opposite direction?

Re: Checking Hardware Compatibitlity

You can usually check the Documents, or Wiki section of a Distro's webpage. It should list the minimum requirements, that should help you out.

Cheers!
