Is ATI support improving?
When I first started dabbling with desktop Linux a coupla years ago, ATI video cards were notoriously troublesome. My first attempts at running Linux were foiled by a Radeon 9250 card.
I keep telling people that ATI is a problem, but I don't know if things have changed. Have modern Linux distros improved regarding ATI compatibility? |

Re: Is ATI support improving?
Depending on the distro, you can find better support for ATI cards. I know that with Ubuntu just about any card will work. Some of the oldest cards will have a little trouble, but that is the nature of the beast.
Most Major distros i.e. Ubuntu, Fedora, Mandriva, Mandrake, Red Hat, etc. have help for ATI cards in either their wiki, Docs, or on their Forum. Just do a little digging and you will be able to find a lot. Are you having any problems with a card at the present time. Is that why you ask? Just ask away and I or another member will try to find something for you to help. Cheers!

Re: Is ATI support improving?
That totally makes sense. If you ever have questions feel free to ask me or anyone else, and we will help you the best we can. Also, look at the documentation for different distros and they can tell you the nitty gritty about their distro.
Cheers!

Re: Is ATI support improving?
I'm not completely sure what the state of ATI Linux drivers is at the moment. I know there are developers that work on the graphics support for one of the more command line based distributions prefers ATI and Intel, since both companies have put more support into open source software than for example nVidia has.
