Damn Small Linux connection.
I have Damn Small Linux Version 4.2.5. on CD that I would like to use on some 128 Ram Laptops that are on wireless cards that connect me to my BThomeHub and Internet and as I expected I have connection problems in fact no connection at all. I have looked through a lot of posts regarding Linux on this forum and I have found nothing regarding my problem which I find surprising but I have not seen all of them so I am hoping some one can give me some information regarding this problem.

Re: Damn Small Linux connection.
Take a look at this listVerified Wireless cards. It should give you a starting point to work from. If you need anything else just ask.
Cheers!

Re: Damn Small Linux connection.
Many thanks for the reply, the card in the computer in question PCMCIA is one I don’t see on the lists. It is an Edup 54Mbps wireless Lan card Ieee802.11b/g Model No. GN-WMKG. I have seen some cards compatible with Linux on EBay, Ralink was one I saw. Maybe I should buy one what do you think?

Re: Damn Small Linux connection.
I realy hope you can glean something from this information.

Re: Damn Small Linux connection.
This is all nice information, but windows runs with different software, that can get the drivers for your wireless card and install them automatically. So we have ruled out windows as it can get an IP. I need you to boot into DSL and try typing "lspci" again and post what you get, even if it is just another command prompt I need to see that.
Cheers!

Re: Damn Small Linux connection.
I have just found out I have been typing an I not an L at the beginning of lspci, I thought it could be a 1 (one) but never an L. I now have this information but as don’t see how to send it to without typing it I will send it tomorrow Monday as it is getting a bit late here Sunday night.

Re: Damn Small Linux connection.
In your terminal if you highlight all of the information that you want to copy, then go to "Edit" then hit "Copy". After that you will want to click on the post reply button and then click the on the "#" sign.
After that you will just paste all the info between the code markers. Cheers!

Re: Damn Small Linux connection.
I had already typed it out before I saw your latest post and I am working with two Laptops. The one I am sending the messages from and typing the information on is much more powerful than the one I need the DSL but I could have still done what you have told me and transfer it on a stick or whatever but I will still do it so I will no how to do it..
I hope the info I am now sending will move things along a bit and thanks again for the replies. ex-para UK Lspci 00:00.0 HOST BRIDGE: INTEL CORPORATION 82830 830 CHIPSET HOST (REV 02) 00:01.0 PCI BRIDGE: INTEL CORPORATION 82830 830 CHIPSET AGP BRIDGE (REV 02) 00:1D.0 USB CONTROLLER: INTEL CORPORATION 8201CA/CAM USB CONTROLLER #1 (REV 01) 00:1E.0 PCI BRIDGE: INTEL CORPORATION 82801 MOBILE PCI BRIDGE (REV 41) 00:1F.0 ISA BRIDGE: INTEL CORPORATION 82801CAM ISA BRIDGE (LPC) (REV 01) 00:1F.1 IDE INTERFACE: INTEL CORPORATION 82801CAM IDE U100 CONTROLLER (REV 01) 00:1F.5 MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLLER: INTEL CORPORATION 82801CA/CAM AC’97 AUDIO CONTROLLER (REV 01) 00:IF.6 MODEM: INTEL CORPORATION 82801CA/ CAM AC’97 MODEM CONTROLLER (REV 01) 01:00.0 VGA COMPATIBLE CONTROLLER: ATI TECHNOLOGIES INC RADEON MOBILITY M6 LY 02::00.0 ETRHERNET CONRTOLLER: 3COM CORPORATION 3C905C – TX/TX - M (TORNADO) (REV 78) 02:01.0 CARDBUS BRIDGE: TEXAS INSTRUMENTS PCI1420 PC CARD CARDBUS CONTROLLER 02:01.1 CARDBUS BRIDGE: TEXAS INSTRUMENTS PCI1420 PC CARD CARDBUS CONTROLLER 04:00:0 NETWORK CONTROLLER: RALINK RT2500 802.11G CARDBUS/MINI-PCI (REV 01) |

Re: Damn Small Linux connection.
Hi,
Try taking a look at this from the DSL Wiki. Configuring a Prism2 Wireless Card See if you have any success with that. Cheers!

Re: Damn Small Linux connection.
Do you use the WEP key? if you don't then I don't think that you need to worry about the WEP key. But try the bellow and see if you can get to that step.

Re: Damn Small Linux connection.
I did use the wep key and entered it as I have shown in my last message to you. I have checked it all again and found I should have 7D1C on the router but it made no difference still no connection. I had some one check I had done it correct and I had. I have done all that is listed.

Re: Damn Small Linux connection.
Some information from your machine that will help is the output from these commands
Code:
ifconfig -a lsmod uname -r It looks like you'll want the rt2x00 driver. There appears to be an in-kernel driver (I think it is the rt2x00 driver), but I need to look into why it's not where I'd expect it to be in the kernel configuration.
