Re: Installing Fedora Core 9 on my sony vaio CR laptop

Welcome to TSF!!

There shouldn't be an issues with installing just the main distro by itself. Are you looking to dual boot with Vista, by chance? That won't cause a problem but will mean that you will have to make sure that you create a new partition and keep the windows one around. Linux works on virtually every PC without any major problems.

If you do find a problem when you install Fedora just let us know.

Cheers!

Hi,

Glad to hear that your install went so well. I have done a little looking and found a couple of things for you.
Quote:

I don't have an answer for that just yet but, it do know that if you do a little looking on your computer you should be able to find a menu that can help you. You might even be able to increase the brightness on the computer itself.

I found this for you: VLC for Fedora. Take a look at it. It has the instructions for downloading and installing VLC.

I need to know what brand of webcam you have. So that I can do a little research on it.

Cheers!

Re: Installing Fedora Core 9 on my sony vaio CR laptop

Hey u no what when send me this link i have already tried it and was going to send you this link but before i do it u have done that.

before i have followed the instructions mentioned at this link(http://penguinenclave.blogspot.com/2...-fedora-9.html)

chesse was just gettting crashed when i run it but after following this procedure it now started up well but wait when i presse the button for taking picture from my webcam my laptop was hanged!!! i was suprised as i was happy that all the steps are implemented smoothly so all should go well but didn't.

today i will try again on that.

and yes i remembred that at the following step:

gst-launch-0.10 v4l2src ! ffmpegcolorspace ! ximagesink

which was done after blacklisting uvcvideo module, i got some message on the terminal from the kernel saying that " there is a kernel crashed!!!!!1" and i was not sure whether the new module is fitted well or not.

will try again and will send the logs and the current status the driver(r5u870).
