lots of problems

Hi,
I just built a computer and i have the following things in it.

DIAMOND Stealth S60PCI Radeon 7000 32MB DDR PCI Video Card
500 GB harddrive
2 X 1 GB Ram
BIOSTAR AM2VCOMB34S AMD Sempron 3400+ AM2 VIA K8M800 Micro ATX
motherboard cpu combo

i have a samsung hdtv for a computer screen.
I also have an old computer screen with vga.

I have the following problems:
I am trying to install either mandrivia or fedora but i cant because my motherboard doesnt seem to recognize my computer screen. My S video out from my video card works but it will randomly shut off becuase i guess i need a driver for the video card but i cant get it until i instill an os. Why wont my motherboard VGA out recognize the screen or vice versa? what can i do?

I have another random question. Is there anyway for me 2 delete my harddrive and just start over my instillation?

Re: lots of problems

Deleting the HDD and starting over is easy. Just toss your install CD in and when it gets to the partitioning part tell it you want to format the entire drive.
Your video may be a tougher problem. ATI cards can be a pain. Don't have knowledge of that particular card.

Welcome to TSF!!

The answer to your second question is Yes! The easiest way is to go to GParted. From there download the .iso file. Then you will need to burn it to a livecd.
  • Go toGParted
  • Download the .iso file.

To do this you will need a cd burner that burns .iso files. If you don't already have one I would recommend, CDburnerXP. This is a Great cd burner. It is similar to Nero, but is free. Once you have CDburnerXP installed you should burn a cd with the iso, and you are all set to go. You seem as though you know how to start your computer from a cd so I won't need to cover that.
  • Download CDburnerXP
  • Burn an Data CD
  • Restart your computer and start from the livecd

As for your first problem I might recommend that you download Knoppix This is a linux distro that is run entirely off a livecd. I would try to run this on your computer to see if it is able to read all of your hardware, then tell us what you find out.

Cheers!
