IPCop Distro
Greetings!!!!
I'm new with Linux but I want to learn all about it, all of it's distros. I had set-up firewall on my network with IPCop which i found while browsing linux firewall on the net, because i'm not familiar with linux, i just let it stand there and do it's own work, i'm able to view it's status via web browser. All i want to know are: 1. Is IPCop a good/stable firewall? 2. What is Snort? I'd registered on it and patch it on IPCop? What does it do? and 3. How can i block some website access? Thank you. Hope learn more from all of you.

Re: IPCop Distro
As far as I can tell IPCop is stable. If you downloaded a stable version of the software, then you should be good to go. Snort is a open source program that is used widely in firewall software, that is the backbone of the software in terms of intrusion prevention. For more information check out Snort.
I am not sure about the second part of the question? I would check out this site: IPCop Documentation then click on the administration section for help with blocking websites. Cheers!

Re: IPCop Distro
IPCop should be fine as far as a firewall goes. It's a distribution of Linux designed with that as a goal in mind. You could possibly get a better firewall set up, but it could take a fair amount of knowledge of Linux and IPTables, etc. If you do want to learn more, you could start by looking through either the documentation or HowToForge's tutorials on IPTables. TLDP (The Linux Documentation Project) might also have something.
Snort is a network analysis tool that IPCop probably uses for figuring what packets to kick out. Due to what snort is designed for, I cannot cover in depth details (would go against forum rules). For blocking web sites - as wmorri said, check the IPCop docs. Looks like they have a section on that exact subject (the Squid ACLs one).
