SuSE11 on HP having battery troubles

hey guys (or girls), My friend recently got a new computer and gave me his old fubar-ed one. It's running a 2.8Ghz celeron processor with 512 of Ram. I thought i got a good deal. His XP hard drive locked up to the point where bios couldnt even find his operating system. i threw in a new hard drive and loaded SuSE11.

openSuse has been running great, the only problem i have is that the battery monitor (kpowersave) cannot read the appropriate power level and claims the battery dies in 8 minutes flat from a full charge. upon disabling auto-shutdown-when-battery-low or whatever you wanna call it, the battery lasted for 2 hours.

The laptop itself seems to know what the battery level is because the battery light goes green when it's fully charged, and blinks orange when its low.

If anyone has the slightest clue, id greatly appreciate it. Thanks guys (or girls)

oh yes, laptop is a HP pavilion ze5700
