Having trouble getting forceware to work with PCLOS

Just installed it as a dual boot, alongside XP. Unfortunately, until I get this sorted, Im stuck in VGA mode. I downloaded the driver from the nVidia site, followed the instructions in the read me about using xconfig to install it. It pops up saying that if I save the file it will be corrupt.
Im pretty new to Linux, meaning Im finally getting sick of the Corporation.
Any help would be great here, thanks people.

Re: Having trouble getting forceware to work with PCLOS

Hi there,

Just as a suggestion, have you tried searching the PCLOS repository for the drivers. Go to the menu, select system - configuration - packaging - Synaptic Package Manager and enter the root password when requested. Now click on the search button and in the search box enter the phrase nVidia which will then search the database for any relevant packages.

Re: Having trouble getting forceware to work with PCLOS

Thanks, I'll give that a try now. As I said Im a new user of linux, dabbled with it in the past, but never to this extent. GOS Space worked a treat, very easy to use. None of the other distros seem that easy...
Just tried it (Im using PCLOS now) no joy, it wont download any of the packages. Do I have to update this OS in any way before it will connect and download the packages?

One thing about PCLOS is the default repository IMHO is crap and many items fail to download, I would advise that you change the download location of the repository over to a more reliable one.

To do so...

1) Open the repository as described before.
2) Go to the menu bar select Settings - Repositories
3) Uncheck the default repository
4) Scroll down and place a check in the repository for http://ftp.nl.freebsd.org/os/Linux/d...pclinuxos/apt/ - (This is the one I use myself)
5) Click OK and the window will disapear
6) Now click on the top left button that says Reload

Now you should have much better luck downloading from the repository
