linksys wireless WMP11 install problems

First of all I am running freespire on a dell DX150
command LSHW produces the following information for the network class
*-network:0 UNCLAIMED
description: Ethernet controller
product: WMP11v4 802.11b PCI card
vendor: Linksys, A Division of Cisco Systems
physical id: a
bus info: pci@01:0a.0
version: 00
width: 32 bits
clock: 33MHz
capabilities: bus_master cap_list
configuration: latency=64 maxlatency=32 mingnt=32
resources: iomemory:fdfff800-fdffffff irq:11
*-network:1
description: Ethernet interface
product: 3c905C-TX/TX-M [Tornado]
vendor: 3Com Corporation
physical id: c
bus info: pci@01:0c.0
logical name: eth0
version: 78
serial: 00:b0:d0:95:80:4a
size: 100MB/s
capacity: 100MB/s
width: 32 bits
clock: 33MHz
capabilities: bus_master cap_list ethernet physical tp mii 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd autonegotiation
configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=3c59x duplex=full ip=192.168.254.2 latency=64 link=yes maxlatency=10 mingnt=10 multicast=yes port=MII speed=100MB/s
resources: ioport:ec80-ecff iomemory:fdfff400-fdfff47f irq:11

This seems to tell me that the system acknowledges the card but does not show a device as my onboard nic does.

the ndiswrapper shows that the device is installed (highlights VVVV ^^^^^ added by me)

pcuser@dell-home:~$ ndiswrapper -l
