Re: Suse 11.0
My first linux was suse and I recently tried suse 11. It is a good beginning linux program unless you use a wireless laptop, then its a literal pain to try to get it to work. I took it off and put on something a little more wireless friendly.

Re: Suse 11.0
I have no trouble with wireless and like Suse; I can't get sound to work, though, and have tried it on two different machines. Everything else works fine, but I'm not really too crazy about Yast.

Re: Suse 11.0
Well I got it installed on the second H/D, but my BIOS only finds the one in the first bay. Neither drive has pins set on the jumpers, but the diagrams that Toshiba has do not match up with the layout of the jumpers on my drives.
Also, I can't get it to connect to my wireless network. $*%&#%&!!!! |

Re: Suse 11.0
Thanks to a Bluetooth phone and network adapter, here are pictures of the H/D in question. Both H/D's are identical.
The last picture is of the jumpers which are laid out in a single row. Last edited by jbarr5 : 07-15-2008 at 01:54 PM. |

Even though I have been using linux for several years I have not taken the time to learn it. I can use it and it does just about everything I want it to do but I just dont know it. If the distro does not make it easy to setup the wireless, I will just switch to another that makes it easy to set it up without typing in the terminal. Theres very few distros that makes it easy with the different laptops I have - the two that I found works the best for me is xandros and mandriva. Even ubuntu makes wireless difficult to use for the laptops I have. Just call me lazy. ![]()

Re: Suse 11.0
sobeit, I don't want to go off and sound like a jerk, but there are a couple of things that you should learn how to do. The first and most important thing is find a distro that you like and will take the time to learn. This is very important so that you can take from your experience with the distro that you use and then give advice to others.(I have read a lot of your posts, and most of them do give good information).
The second thing that you should learn is how to use basic commands in terminal. This will help you more than just being able to move about in a command line interface. You will be able to take most all commands and use them on any number of OS's. So, I would recommend that you learn at least the basic cd, ls, rm, dir, commands and what they do. Cheers!
