Debian- Installing Pidgin - GCC error

So I just put Debian on my computer, and I've gone through most of the process (I've done this before), but I keep getting this error:

configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables

whenever I run ./configure

I've already installed gcc, so I have no idea what the problem could be.

Have you tried to do this in terminal:

sudo apt-get install pidgin

See if that works, becuase it sounds like you are trying to configure a .tar.gz or .tgz file. make sure that you do the whole thing, after you cd to the folder that you want to install it in:

Code:

./configure
make
make install
