Kubuntu/vista Help!!!
I tried to set up a dual boot of Vista and Kubuntu, Kubuntu installation was smooth as silk but now i cant use vista. Ive tried everything ive seen online GRUB just acts like vista isnt even there (Which maybe its not i don't know)
I've tried to reinstall Vista through its DVD but it says my hard drive isnt NTFS so it wont let me install it and i cant get it to reformat it to NTFS Ive tried running the dual boot scenario with Linux coming first but the only help i can find is using UBUNTU first not Kubuntu and Kubuntu doesnt have a Partition editor which is absolutely 100% necessary PLEASE PLEASE Help Me HURRY.. IF you have to give me your phone number and i'll call i need help as fast as possible please guys please |

Re: Kubuntu/vista Help!!!
Here is what i think happened when you installed Kubuntu(and correct me if I am wrong). First when did the install and it asked you where you wanted to put the files, you choose to use the whole hdd. This caused the installer to changed the file type to either ext2 or ext3. This is why you aren't able to boot into the vista installer.
Next, you probably didn't choose the save any of the other partitions or operating systems on you computer, which in turn would remove all the Vista files, but possibly keep Vista in the boot menu(for some reason). As for coming up with a dual boot scenario, you can just go with one of the ones that is labeled for Ubuntu. This is because Kubuntu, is just Ubuntu but with the KDE gui. When it comes to a partition manager. You might want to see if there is GParted, listed under the system menu anywhere. If it is then you can just use that. If it isn't the you will want to open Konsole and type this Code:
sudo apt-get install gparted I know that this was a lot of information, but it is most likely what happened when you installed Kubuntu. Let us know if you need any other help, or have question about what I wrote and I will do my best to explain my self. Cheers!

Re: Kubuntu/vista Help!!!
you should be able to go into kubuntu grub manager or whatever its called and edit the grub to add windows. It should see it so all you should have to do is to select it to add.
I do not use kubuntu but I do use another distro and had to do it myself so I cannot tell you the steps.
