Which version of Ubuntu are you trying to install? Also, I know that there is a windows installer for 8.04, which will allow you to install it like any other program. Is that the installer that you are talking about. Or are you installing it from a livecd?

Cheers!

Re: How to install ubuntu???already having XP

I remember having a problem like this with Ubuntu Feisty. Screen went black towards the last quarter of the install.

I think in my case it was a screen resolution issue (due to quite an old Intel chipset). The OS installed and booted just fine despite the darkness except during boot the screen went completely black too. Worked fine once it got to the login screen though.

What sort of graphics chipset is your computer using?

you should be able to install "Hardy Heron" without any probs it does sometimes take a while when it gets to about 70% though

Re: How to install ubuntu???already having XP

sonofara, are you using the "Wubi" installer, that opens in Windows, or are you booting off the dvd? I have found the the "Wubi" installer can have problems at times. Installing from the livecd can help you learn about the linux file system.

Cheers!
