ndiswrapper instalation?
Okay,
I installed linux on one of my older PC's a few months ago, i have since been realy busy, and never quite got around to finishing my little linux project off. I installed PClinuxOS and it works fine. I have very very limited knowlege of linux, as this is the first time i have ever used it. I want to use my D-Link DWL G-122 wireless USB adaptor to conect my PC to my wireless internet, but i have NO clue how to do this. I have heard about this ndiswrapper, and i downloaded ndiswrapper V 1.53 and i tried to install it on the linux computer, but i had NO sucess and i have no clue what im doing. I couldnt erven extract the files from the "Gzipped Tar Archive". I have read a few different guides on how to install ndiswrapper and get a driver working through it, but unfortunatly, its all jargen to me, i dont understand what theyre talking abiout and i need a more simple explanation for the Linux Newbie :D (im not a computer dinosaur, im just new to linux) Your help would be very much so appriciated :) Kindest regards, Chup.

Re: ndiswrapper instalation?
Move the ?.tar.gz file to a directory that you will install it from. I would suggest creating a directory called "/opt/src". Opt stands for optional and in Unix jargon, optional software goes there. Then enter the command:
tar xzvf ndiswrapper.tar.gz x-> means extract, z->gzip compression, v->verbose, f->the tar file follows and in your case is ndiswrapper.tar.gz. This will extract the compress tar file into the directory that it was zipped from. It is probably something like ndsiwrapper. cd into the directory and look for a README or INSTALL file and follow the instructions. |
