sound issue fedora 9
I am using fedora 9 on both my laptop and my desktop computers. Both use ATI for graphics and sound (albeit different chipsets) My bose companion5 speakers work on my laptop but not my desktop through usb. The speakers work if I plug in a 3.5mm cable from the soundcard to the control pod, but the sound is staticy. On my laptop i can just plug in the usb jack as the computer is booting and the speakers work absolutely great. Here is the error message I am getting on my desktop computer: audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Could not open audio device for playback."
Im going to try to update the kernel to get them to work, if it does, Ill post that on here. In the mean time does anyone know of any fixes for this or what the cause of the problem might be?

Re: sound issue fedora 9
Ok I think I figured it out, but im not sure exactly what package it was lol. I installed wine as I realized that was the only major software difference between my laptop and desktop. some of the dependencies for wine were audio packages one of which made the speakers work properly! Thanks anyway guys.
