Hi,
Last week my Presario Compaq notebook OS XP went dead Operating System not found. No problem ( I think) cuz Damn Small Linux boots up. Still, I've never connected to the internet via DSL with Linux. Could someone tell/show me how? Thank you for any assistance you can give me. My Regards, tdb/Trina |

Re: Damn Small Linux and Linksys Adapter Card
You should be able to connect just the same way as will windows. Just clicking on your browser and then go from there. A couple of things that you can do is to do an ifconfig, this is the same as a ipconfig in windows. Also, you can try to ping google.com, by typing ping www.google.com, then hitting enter. The last two things are done in terminal.
Cheers!

Re: Damn Small Linux and Linksys Adapter Card
Would your linksys adapter card happen to be a WMP11 Wireless G?
Which damn small linux are you trying to use it on? Some of the cheaper linksys cards can be a pain in the *** to get working on linux or windows. Last edited by windowsblows : 06-30-2008 at 05:18 PM. |

Re: Damn Small Linux and Linksys Adapter Card
When you have your wireless card in and your system up, can you open terminal and type lspci. This should list all of the hardware connecting to your mobo, and your wireless adapter drivers. If that doesn't work try whereis lspci. This should tell you where to find out this info, too.
Cheers!

Re: Damn Small Linux and Linksys Adapter Card
Try running your browser again and type in this number: 65.254.46.177
If you have any network connection at all, you should go to www.dslos.com. I'm just checking to see if you do have a connection, but the named server is not working. (The named server converts URLS to IP numbers). Also try "ping 65.254.46.177" This should connect if you have any kind of network. Also please post the results of "/sbin/ifconfig". This will dump about 30 lines of the status of the ethernet connect(s). |

Re: Damn Small Linux and Linksys Adapter Card
I would recommend that you download and try this program: NDISwrapper. It is a program that is made to help people with wireless issues connect to the internet.
Cheers!

Re: Damn Small Linux and Linksys Adapter Card
Try also, typing in iwconfig. This will give you the output for you wireless connection, if you are getting anything. ifconfig, is good for an ethenet LAN connection, but not a wireless connection.
Cheers!

Wmorri, I've moved from the DSL Live Cd to booting up DSL via my flash drive. I was wondering, how do I save all/any dowloads? Also, when I type in iwconfig should I do this via my Lan connection or put in my Linksys Adapter Card to see if I have any output? Thanks again.Trina/tdb |
