OK, here is where I found the current iso file for DSL from the site you listed. current iso.

All you have to do is click on the current iso folder and then the download will begin.

Cheers!

Yes, save the file to your desktop, or wherever you save your downloaded stuff, and then you are off and running.

Cheers!

Re: Where and how do I download damn small linux?

It didn't work. It just saved the files, so when I ran the disk, the files on there could be transferred, but the operating system ain't gonna run. :(

Re: Where and how do I download damn small linux?

I don't have to have any program like bittorrent, right?

Re: Where and how do I download damn small linux?

I am confused. On the first post you said that you ran the disk. Does that mean that you burned the .iso file to a cd/dvd and then tried to boot from the media and it didn't work? Or did you just iput the media into the drive and tried to run it from windows?

For the second post, you are asking about a bit torrent. What does that have to do with burning DSL to a cd/dvd to install on your computer? You shouldn't have to use a bit torrent. You just need a program that will burn .iso images to cds.

If you need a couple to try check out this list from another forum that I am on: iso burners.

Cheers!

Re: Where and how do I download damn small linux?

I downloaded DSL (and other linux distros) normally without bittorrent, burnt them to a disk, ran it on windows, restarted the computer, windows started, not linux.

But with kubuntu I did everything exactly the same, and it worked.

Re: Where and how do I download damn small linux?

Ok, so what you will want to do is throw your Debian or Kubuntu disk in the drive. Then restart your computer. When your computer restarts you will see a screen that allows you to hit different "F" keys, and/or ESC, you will want to hit the key that will start your bootloader. This is a screen that shows everything that can load media. Usually your computer starts one of your hdd's but, you will want to choose the drive that has the livecd in it.

My bootloader looks something like this:
Hard-drive:
-80GB Maxtor
-100TB External
Floppy Drive
-Master
CD/DVD
-DVD-RW
-CD-RW

Cheers!

Re: Where and how do I download damn small linux?

Are you sure I didn't just make an error somewhere? Did you see that screenie of what happened when I opened it in windows? It handled it as a normal disk with data on it, when normally it would open a linux windo saying:"restart yoour computer to install or try linux" or whatever it says.

Re: Where and how do I download damn small linux?

I am not sure about what "screenie" you are talking about. But, I do know what you are talking about with the error message that says restart. You might want to try to burn another iso cd. This time try lowering the burning speed. So like if it was burning at 16x try turning it down to like 10x or 8x.

Cheers!

Question Re: Where and how do I download damn small linux?

What is small linux? I am thinking of changing to linux. My son-in-law suggested ubuntu for my desk top. It doesn't have a program like excell that I like. Why do you like the small linux? Is it necessary to curse??

Re: Where and how do I download damn small linux?

Renate, your post made me laugh a little :)

He wasn't cursing, the version of Linux is actually called "Damn Small Linux". And if I understand correctly (I'm not a Linux user), people use it because it takes up very little harddrive space.

Re: Where and how do I download damn small linux?

keilanS, you are correct, Damn Small Linux (DSL) uses very small amount of hdd space only 50mb, also, it is great for older computers that don't have a lot of resources.

Renate, did u try using Open-office.org. It is an Office suite that is very similar to Microsoft office. It does have an excel program Open-office.org spreadsheet.

Cheers!
