Changing terminal resolutions?
How do I go about changing the resolutions of my terminals? They all go off the screen of my laptop, and would like to "turn them down" to fit entirely onscreen. I remember that with DOS, I could do the same thing with mode con cols=80 lines=50 to get an 80X50 character display, and would like to know how to do the same with the Borne Again Shell of Linux.

The following link will give you the table of values that you can use: http://www.mepis.org/node/view/2992. Just edit your lilo.conf or menu.lst (for grub) file and add this as "vga=794" or whichever value you wish to use. I would recommend that you copy/paste one of the existing sections for testing this just in case you use a value that your system can't handle. If you're using lilo, then make sure you run lilo to have your changes, for grub, it's not needed.
Beyond this, if you have it set to the resolution you want, then the only thing left is to adjust the monitor settings for horizontal/vertical. I know that Windows and Linux don't really like using the same H/V values. I've never tried to see if this can be modified.

Thanks. ...but as far as the H/V settings, they don't apply as this is on a laptop's LCD panel. The upper corner is correct, but the "display" just goes off the bottom and right of the screen, which proves to be very annoying.
