internet connection slow down
![]() I'm using Slackware 12.0 on partition 2. I boot up on partition one, also linux. Connecting the internet on partition 2 has gotten progressively slower 'til now it won't connect. Is this a virus on partition 2's boot record? I'm using grub on partition 1 as the boot loader. Thanks |

Re: internet connection slow down
Sorry, I don't run Slackware, but could it be Slackware's software updating daemon running. If you don't have that latest updates installed, then you machine may be going out and getting and updating the software. The daemon would be running in background and could be pulling down huge files. (I run Fedora 9 and I think the first time I updated after the install 2 weeks ago, about 200 Meg was downloaded).
See if the daemon is running and turn it off. Your response should pick up quickly. Sorry I don't know the name of the daemon or how to turn it off. |

Re: internet connection slow down
So I talked to my good friend google, and came up with a couple of thoughts. One: Does this happen while you are downloading a file off the internet, the file doesn't have to be very big but the bigger the better? Because a lot of people are having problems with that on different distros.
Two: Are you running anything like Apache or samba on your computer. If you are this could be causing a problem. I would recommend shutting them off and then rebooting and seeing if you still have the problem. Another thing to try is to disable IPv6. This seems to be a problem with a lot of the distros right now. Disabling IPv6 Cheers!
