need help

i installed ubuntu, or tried to, but apparently failed to do so correctly. ubuntu runs great, but my windows media center stopped running, it shows some unmountable boot volume error. i heard it might be because i did not partition the hard drive, any suggestions??
i need to be able to recover my files from windows
