Download PC wizard 2008.. and install it. From the software above, you should be able to check your CPU temperature if the trouble is trully due to overheating.

Re: What happens when...
Thank you for your answers. I will try the website to download the PC Wizard 2008. But most of the programs I've tried downloading don't work. I am fairly new to the Linux system, so somethings are still in need of knowing how to do...

Re: What happens when...
rawr66, Using a Linux O/S you compile programs and then configure the programs to fit your needs, as that is opensource.
You can get hardware info about your machine from the command line. Also the wine program will let you run windows programs inside of a linux machine.

Re: What happens when...
Why not simply pull the side off your case and look at the fans? You may also have an accumulation of dust on the cpu heat sink that should be removed. Ditto for the heat sink on the chip set, if present.

Re: What happens when...
Thank you for telling for telling me about the fans. I looked, and I discovered the main fan to air out the inside was unplugged. But could someone also help me why I wouldn't be able to download any programs? Even the PC Wizard 2008 didn't download. And I can't get the Flash Player to download either, for websites like youtube. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: What happens when...
I am in need of some help still. My computer will not install it's updates, and when I want it to install it comes up with an error report that says "E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run "dpkg -- configure -a" to correct the problem. E:_cache->open() failed, please report". It is now also starting to run a bit slower. There is no scanning program on my computer, as far as I know. And also the Pidgin Internet Messenger is starting to not sign me in anymore. I am starting to worry about what to do, seeing as nothing I try is working. I would really appreciate any type of help I can get.

Re: What happens when...
What distribution are you running (I can tell it's Debian-based by the dpkg message, but it helps to know the specific distro)?
The PC Wizard 2008 seems to be a Windows program, so it won't work on Linux (like a Linux program won't work on Windows without someone recompiling it). What happens when you click on links to download programs? Firefox should give you a message asking you whether or not you want to save the file or open it with a program. Flash has to be installed from your package manager or manually from a download on Adobe's web site. How are you trying to install updates? Is it with Synaptic? For the commands it is telling you to run, open a terminal (should be Terminal in Ubuntu, Konsole in Kubuntu), then run sudo dpkg -- configure -a

Re: What happens when...
I do not have a clue what you just said. The program I am using to update is Update Manger, and it just came up about 2 weeks after I got it. I am only 16, and I really know nothing about the software. Just of how the computer works on the inside. (I opened one once). But I do not have flash player or anything installed. That's one of the things I've been trying to install. But I really have no clue of half the stuff you just said.

Re: What happens when...
Since you are running a debian distro, it might be Ubuntu. Go to the terminal, or as you might know it command prompt. Then type
Code:
cat /etc/issue Cheers!

Re: What happens when...
A distribution is pretty much the same as an operating system, correct?
Also, it may help to know which web browser you (rawr66) are using. *Pretends to know what she is talking about* And if your computer is getting progressively worse, it may have some sort of virus. That is about the extent of my computer knowledge/guessing skills. |

Re: What happens when...
It's not getting progressively worse. It just wont download ANYTHING. And I mean anything. I tried everything that I know of, and all your guy's help is thankful, but I don't know where the command prompt is from wmorri, and thanks Atalanta for your helpful sarcasm(says this meaningfully, not sarcasticly)

Re: What happens when...
Ok, if you are using Ubuntu, then you can go to the applications tab > Accessories > Terminal. If you have another distro, then i would look where all your programs are listed, and find one listed teminal. Or try doing a search for it.
As for why you cant download anything, I am guessing that you have gone through the basic steps of checking your connection, and you apparently can get online. Have you tried to add any programs from like an add/remove list? This will have to download files from the internet. If this doesn't work, then i will have to come up with another solution. Cheers!
