Run Windows in Linux Or Linux in Windows?
So heres my situation. Ive already made a post kind of like this one but no one gave me answers so here we go again. I have a computer that has 2 hardrives. one is a 40 gig and the other is 80 gig. there both have windows xp pro pirated. i was wanting to use linux and was wondering if there was a way to run windows in linux or something of the sort so i can go back and forth and still have acess to my files. i want to see how linux works and possibly make a full switch. i was wondering if anyone had some reconmendations on which version on linux to use (ive seen that you can burn a cd and use that or you have to repartion your hard drive) how to install it and what to do?? some one told me to "run Windows in a virtual console on a Linux box"? i have no idea what that means but if some one could clarify that would be cool. i just need to know how to get started. thanks for any help

Re: Run Windows in Linux Or Linux in Windows?
I run Windows XP under Linux-Fedora Core 8 (on a quad core 64 bit motherboard). Under my VMware client (the free one) I run Windows XP as 32-bit. Under the same VM I also have installed Ubantu (32-bit) and Minix (a teaching unix). I mount all my Linux disks on the XP machine using Samba. The NTFS disks can be exported and mounted to the Linux machine.
At work I run Windows XP-64 where I need to run Autocad and ArcGIS. I put together large drawings and I need the computing horsepower that 64-bit has. Under VMware I run another Windows XP which is 32 bit. XP64 does not support any of the old Windows 3.1 dll's and I have one program for billing my clients that needs a 16-bit dll. I also run on that VM, Fedora Core 7 32-bit (which I don't keep up to date) and another copy of Minix. As an experiment once, I copied the VMware disk files at home and took them to work. I pointed VMware to the "new" OS and I had my home XP at work. This is why AMD (I think it was AMD) is/was suing Microsoft over some of their reluctance over Virtual Machines. (I have since deleted those disk files). One of the best features of VMware is the ability to suspend the OS. It is just like having a laptop and you close the lid. Everything shuts down and gets suspended. When you want to resume, you click the "resume" and it starts up where you left off. All the programs still running. You don't have to wait for a boot. When the VM is suspended, you get the dedicated ram back. Of the two setups, I like the Linux host and the Windows VMware client the best. I use the free Vmware client.
