Ubuntu

I finally decided to try Ubuntu. So as you guessed I do not know anything about this. I think and hope I am in the correct forum

I didnt install it I am only booted from it if that makes sense. Now it is a little laggy to me so I need to know what the requirements might be for this before I decide which machine I am installing on. O, and how do I check to see what they are? Any type of Device Manager in here lurking around ??

I laffed when I saw the clock at the top right along with the shut down menu.
And the trash is in the bottom right
I was totally amazed that Openoffice came preinstalled....nice

So I hear I don't need an anti-virus or any anti-spyware programs. Is this true?

Ya know, I can get real used to this but I am wondering, what are the problems people run into? It seems like a flawless OS

That is called using a live cd which runs off your ram so that could explain it being "laggy"

Ubuntu is available for PC, 64-Bit and Mac architectures. At least 256 MB of RAM is required to run the desktop install CD. Install requires at least 4 GB of disk space.

Yes

I know for some people it was flawless, for others the problems varied - no sound, display, internet access, ect... Most of the time it seems to be a driver issue from what I have experienced. I had trouble with my mouse cursor missing after install, quick edit and it was fixed. If I use the restricted driver on my install things get a little "buggy" Just don't have time to fix that yet

The thing I love about Ubuntu is the community support for this distro. Whether you ask a question here or go to the Ubuntu forums generally you can get a response pretty quickly.

Stay tuned for others input and have fun with Ubuntu

Re: Ubuntu

Hey Geekgirl, Clark is dead on about Ubuntu. If the OS works with all of your hardware its an awesome OS and if your the type to want to digg deep into the belly of your computer Ubuntu is one of the easiest Distros to do that with. Another good distro that is good for linux noobs is Ubuntu Ultimate. It has a lot of the packages that it installs for you. Kind of the distro for lazy people to. But it adds alot to an already awesome OS. Check it out.
